Permits and Licenses

Securing your Teton County marriage license is the most essential part of the wedding planning process, it’s the one item every couple must have. In addition, couples celebrating in Jackson Hole may need permits for their ceremony location, whether within Grand Teton National Park or at The Wedding Tree in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This page outlines what’s required and how to reserve each. We can discuss additional locations and options as we plan together.

  • Teton County Marriage License

Teton County requires couples to schedule an appointment to apply for a marriage license; only the couple must be present, and appointments should be made one to two business days before the ceremony. Applicants must appear in person, be at least 18, and show valid photo ID. The license costs $30, has no waiting period, and must be returned to the Clerk’s Office within 10 days of the ceremony.

  • National Park Wedding Permit

Grand Teton National Park requires a Special Use Permit for weddings or commitment ceremonies to keep events small, rustic, and low-impact. Only minimalist, nature-friendly ceremonies are allowed, no decorations, amplified music, arches, or chairs (except for guests who can’t stand), and sites must remain open to the public. Applications are due at least 30 days in advance with a $200 nonrefundable fee.

  • Reserve The Wedding Tree

The Wedding Tree is a cherished ceremony site in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, celebrated for its sweeping Teton views and deep connection to nature. This iconic location has become one of Jackson Hole’s most sought-after wedding spots and must be reserved in advance, with a nonrefundable $300 fee and a guest limit of 75. Ceremonies here are simple and natural, preserving the beauty of the landscape.
